Unlocking learning through literacy and numeracy
The Brisbane Youth Education and Training Centre (BYETC) is supporting learners in the youth justice system and beyond to develop essential literacy and numeracy skills through the development of customised learning materials in the General Education for Adults (CGEA) course and certificates. Students who want to continue their training after they have left the Brisbane Youth Detention Centre are able to access further training in CGEA through Vocational Training
Queensland (RTO 45576).
The certificates in General Education for Adults are accredited courses developed to address the education and training needs of learners who have left secondary school early and need to improve their literacy, basic maths and general education skills.
It is our aim that students become increasingly independent and are able to complete more complex language and literacy tasks as they progress through the course levels. As a significant proportion of our students are from Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander backgrounds, there is a strong emphasis on embedding culturally appropriate images, text and perspectives in all student work journals and electronic resources.
