Turning the Tables One Table At a Time

BYETC students have been working hard over the last few months to build a large outdoor table setting to donate to the community.

Construction students work on numerous projects in their classes such as building hat racks and tool boxes and have worked their way up to building a wooden table; one of the biggest projects included in the Cert II in Construction Pathways.

Young people in industrial design and technology subjects also participate in a ‘curriculum of giving’ by producing high-quality products for donation, which are highly valued by greater community organisations.

Recently, BYETC teachers, Dave, Matt, Rob and Beau kindly donated a wooden table on behalf of the students, to the Milton Grange Retirement Village in Ipswich. This donation was particularly special, as Milton Grange is home to 102-year-old WWII veteran, Ralph Edwards (pictured). Ralph commented positively on the young people’s handiwork and precision. The table has been placed in the village’s community garden which is enjoyed and loved by all residents.

Giving back to the community through our community engagement ensures students see their hard work pay off and enables them to directly make a difference to the lives of others.
